2020 FO&L Annual Client Seminar Headlined by Commissioner Cassie Brown

Mar 12, 2020 | by FOL

On March 5, 2020, FO&L held its annual Workers’ Compensation Client Seminar at Plano Event Center. Keeping up with the change in structure made to the seminar last year, this year’s seminar addressed issues frequently encountered by adjusters in the administration of claims and a practical, big picture view of the Texas Workers’ Compensation system as a whole. Tailoring our presentations to address frequent questions and issues raised on our GQ Hotline, we sought to provide valuable insight and clarification on a variety of topics, including: subrogation, average weekly wage, supplemental income benefits, lifetime income benefits, bona-fide offers of employment, disability, plain language notices, and many more.

Continuing to further enhance our clients’ seminar experience, FO&L provided a panel discussion with Commissioner Cassie Brown, Deputy Commissioner of Compliance Investigations Debra Knight, and Deputy Commissioner of Health and Safety Matt Zurek. The panel provided an insightful look into the future of the Division and addressed some of the new regulations that have been adopted. Commissioner Brown spoke about her vision to enhance expediency in claim-processing and effectiveness in communicating with all parties involved in a claim by moving toward a paperless reality. Deputy Commissioner Knight brought clarity to new regulations regarding first responders and addressed how these regulations would come into effect for many claims. Rounding out a diverse and relevant panel discussion, Deputy Commissioner Zurek furthered Commissioner Brown’s theme of expediency at the Division by specifically addressing new avenues to expedite time-sensitive claims involving claimants that require pain pumps.

As is the case every year, FO&L not only likes to use this setting to provide valuable information that can be used in the daily administration of a claim, but also sees it as a wonderful opportunity to interact face-to-face with many of its clients. The seminar also provides a chance for clients and attendees to directly ask FO&L attorneys questions with regards to any Workers’ Compensation issue.

We thank everybody who came out to this year’s client seminar, and would invite everyone to return next year. Also, we hope that those who were unable to attend this year’s seminar will be able to join us for the next edition.
