GQ CornerQ. What is the most cost-effective way to resolve this without the customer having to incur additional charges? If we already admitted to the 12% rating, is there additional form work that absolutely has to be completed, or can the claim be closed once the impairment rating is finished being paid, as he has been released from care.

A. If you just want to close the indemnity portion of the file, once you have paid per the DD, nothing more is required. The claimant could still, in the absence of an agreement, pursue dispute resolution. If the 12% was already paid out, then the claimant would have no incentive to do anything.

Q. I have a claimant who is receiving IIBs, but now wants to return to work.  Do I keep issuing the IIBs?

A. IIBs should continue regardless of the return to work. They are based on the impairment rating as compensation for permanent effect on the body and are not based on replacement of ongoing missed income.
