FOL to Participate in WCI Virtual Conference in August
For the past 10 years lawyers from Flahive, Ogden & Latson have presented as part of the Workers’ Compensation Institute’s national conference. The Orlando conference is a 3-day learning extravaganza for stakeholders in the workers’ compensation community. The conference typically attracts 8,000 to 9,000 attendees.
Next month, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, WCI will present a version of the conference virtually – and attendance is free. The three-day presentation will take place on August 17-18 and 21, 2020.
Our firm will participate in the popular multi-state review of laws in 13 jurisdictions, including California, Illinois, Florida, Texas, Georgia and eight more states. Lawyers from those states will discuss how each jurisdiction approaches the investigation and compensability determination of injuries alleged to have occurred while working from home. In addition, the attorney panels will contrast and compare the use of the intoxication defense in each jurisdiction. There will be a special emphasis on developing effective file closure techniques.
The conference will once again telecast a live surgery in a workers’ compensation case. Participants can watch physicians from the Orlando Orthopaedic Group perform and discuss a LIVE surgery with the opportunity to have Q&A with the surgeon.
The National Workers’ Compensation Review breakout session will debate new policy issues in presumption for first responders and present a session on new AMA Guides for Permanent Impairment ratings.
Kimberly George and Mark Walls will keynote the conference with a panel of workers’ comp experts. Mark your calendars now for this interesting and timely virtual conference.
