Remarriage Bill Set for Senate Committee Hearing Tomorrow
HB 1094 by Rep. Charlie Geren (R-River Oaks) has been scheduled for a hearing before the Senate Business & Commerce Committee on May 21, 2015. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. on the Senate floor and interested stakeholders can watch the hearing live at this link.
The bill provides that surviving spouses of first responders will receive benefits for life, regardless of remarriage. One effect of the bill is to preclude redistribution of benefits to eligible children after a spouse has remarried.
